Netflix profit jumps 45 percent

DVD players and DVD movies are what people use and watch as well as the high definition satellite and cable signals on computers and televisions.
And if the power goes then the writing tablet comes out.
We have gas and water via underground pipes to our home and that will keep us in water and heat to our home. We have candles, beans and rice. so we are set for 3 or 4 days.
We do not have any trees or towers to worry about any more because they are gone.

I am up early and the weather forecast was for icicles and icicles we have. I do not think we going anywhere at this time.
We were supposed to go to the hospital this morning for Motherkitty's checkup.
I hear the sleets falling on the icicles as I speak.

1000 I cleared the bird feeder of icicles and I went out to get the mail. There may be ice underfoot but there is more sleet and with sleet you have traction. It may freeze over overnight and then it will be hard and bumpy; at the moment it is fine to move around in.
2000 The power went out about 9 pm and it came back on at 8:30 pm.
The power went off again at 2045. I am using this laptop on battery power to write. Without electrical power there is no light other than the candles and this white screen. We have burners on in the kitchen on the gas stove and we have windows cracked open in the bedrooms. I will stay up till 0300 while Motherkitty sleeps then I will turn the burners off, close one window and get some sleep. Kitten Yarns (Murray Kentucky) and her mother-in-laws (Paducah Kentucky) power was off. When this battery goes then I will have to write with pen and ink on paper.
10 pm The power is back on.

Sunday morning and 16 degrees outside and 68 degrees inside our home. Cloudy outside and I awoke stiff and sore and dizzy this morning. I need to stretch those sore muscles and exorcise my neck for the dizziness. Now that the sun is rising the sky looks pink.
I am between paydays and it feels that way (slim pickin's). I am one of those humans that gets pay for the work I have done and now in my elder (67) years the money I saved is given to me by the federal government. I do create websites to supplement my income but that has paid me very little.
I heard a lady say this morning that she could not go out and build roads and I feel the same; these ankles will not stand up for long periods of time.
Motherkitty is off today but goes to work tomorrow.
People that worked for corporations saved their money in accounts the corporations held and when those corporations were sold so was the money. The government did the same but instead of selling the money they moved the money; my retirement fund and social security fund. They placed a note where my funds used to be. Now folks thinks that those notes are promises and can be discarded.

Buena Vista Social Club - Candela

I got the rocking chair fixed and it is solid though it has three plugs in the side of the seat where the screws were put. I will fill these holes with blond southern pine wood paste but it will still look repaired. The only other solution is store bought edge wood laminate.
I also worked outside manhandling the TV tower and I am a little stiff this morning from that chore. I still have to cut the tower from the concrete base and disassemble the twisted antennae.
Tomorrow is Long Haired Daddy's birthday.
The day looks light and cheerful and the temperature is in the mid 40's.
All Motherkitty wants to hear on the radio is music from the 1940's and that is a big change from The Rolling Stones. She does play the Buena Vista Social Club on her way to work.
1200 When Motherkitty left for work I was sanding the underside of the rocking chair. Motherkitty did not say anything but I am sure she was wondering if I was going to refinishing the rocking chair. The rocker has a great old finish that does not need refinishing (cleaning yes but not refinishing). What I was doing was gathering sawdust from the chair to mix with Elmer's glue so when the plugs I filled would dry they would be closer to the chair color (hopefully).

I was up at 0300 and took my medicine, read my emails, MOSTPOSTS, the news and new tech reports.
It is after 0800 and I am just getting up. The weather in my head is sandy and fog. The weather is supposed to get into the 50's today and that sounds great. Maybe I can go out and continue to disassemble the tower and get the antennae to a reasonable size to trash.
I am continuing to work on the rocking chair; most of the fixing has been done and now I am plugging the holes with carpenters glue. I have not tested the stability of the chair yet as the glue and screws are still doing their magic.

When Motherkitty and I got married I used to sand floors in Cynthiana and Lexington Kentucky. ( The Wood Dust Creature) When we moved to Marion we had no money so we had to find good furniture cheap; so we found a kitchen table with four chairs and two rocking chairs (one for mom nursing and one for baby). I refinished all of the above and they were all in use when our daughter got married (Kitten Yarn). Motherkitty was ready for something new and daughter was having a child. So we donated all of the above to the new growing family until they got around to updating their furnishings. The table and chairs got donated to Hawkins Research in Murray, KY.
When we were at Murray a few days ago the arm of the big rocker loosened up and Kitten Yarn asked me to fix it and I brought it back to Marion.
So today after my NARFE meeting I got started in repairing the big rocker.

Just what did Obama say yesterday? I heard what I wanted to hear. The folks in powerful places did not like what he said. Our military loved what he said. The terrorist in powerful places did not like what he said. Those of us that loved to divide our country could not find the place in his thoughts as to where to divide our country.
Our founding fathers had a thought as to where our nation stood and defined it on paper. Time has fuzzied the lines because of a lot of changes like outlawing slavery, giving women equal thought and vote and giving those that fight wars a vote. We had at that time no political parties. We divided our government into three branches of government.

LEGISLATIVE - LEGISLATIVE - JUDICIAL.

Note that Democrats, Federalists, Whigs, Republicans, Lobbyists and Unions were not part of the 3 branches. They may be included into the preamble as, "We the people".

0800 Big flakes of snow are falling as I speak; Motherkitty asked me last night what the weather forecast for our coummunity would be? And I said, " It is going to be clear and cold."
1215 The snow is gone and we have a new president. That is our son in the dark shirt and his high school friend in white.
Motherkitty is up early watching CNN. The inauguration crowds are already in place and with temperatures in the 20's history is going to show some frostbite on someone ears twenty years from now. I hope they brought some blankets and battery operated leg warmers.
It is 20 degrees here at home in Marion Kentucky.
I have been slowly staying up later trying to adjust my schedule so that I quit getting up at 0300. I got up at 0400 this morning some things are getting better.
We spent the day with Kitten Yarn and family and the big thing yesterday was getting Little Sister some Shoe Laces. We walked into Walmart with her laces flopping on the floor. I did my home work and measured her old laces (48") and decided that they were a foot too long. So I kept repeating to my self and the girls that 48" was 4 feet. Four feet minus one foot is three feet. (3'). I asked the girls if the cats had 3 feet. They said, "N0!" I asked them to count the cats feet and they realized that by counting to four they had to travel by 3. So we made a big deal of not 4 feet but 3 feet for her laces. When we got the shoe department at Walmart we removed "Little Sisters" sneakers with her long long laces and with each of us with a task we removed the long long laces from her sneakers as I grabbed a set of 36" (3feet) laces from the display. The first set was white with red hearts and the second choice was something like strawberry shortcake. Well the strawberry shortcake won so the team replaced her laces in her sneakers and believe it or not they looked perfect and did not flop on the department store floor.
We ate lunch at a Pizza place that has those play areas with those colored balls that children jump into. We spent two hours at the pizza place eating, talking and playing. Long Hair Daddy said to call when we got close to the Pizza place so we called. His phone would not ring on our end and his end. Kitten Yarn called the service but there was no answer on the Holiday.

I did not like the way our Family Photo page got skewed so I went in and changed it. In doing so I think I repeated some images. I also learned something new (adding more table to the bottom of the the present table). I normally just added another table; that did not work and created the problem.

We have a dusting of snow on the ground and the temperature is hovering in the upper 20's.
I heard this morning young college students asking questions about Barack Obama on C-Spans Question and Answers. As they asked a question the moderator asked them what they thought about their question. They all answered their question with new hope as a new idealism was going into the White House. There was hope in their answers. One young man said that the new president was changing the way we think as a nation. We were going from a government that did not believe in a government (less government in Washington D.C.) to a government of "We the People" meaning that each one of us was the government of these United States.

I have been up since about 0200; ever since Motherkitty was getting up early and going to bed early I have followed suit. Now my schedule is way off as I continue to rise early as she has changed her schedule to day light working hours.

Gil has a birthday coming up and it will certainly be overshadowed by the coronation of Barack Obama.
0700 This the 2nd morning in a row where we have had pink, blue and gray skies in the morning. I think the red sky in the morning thought does not apply as I assumed it would.
Motherkitty is working more eight hour days so she has more money to spend as she pleases. She enjoys meeting people at work even though she does not like the standing part of her job. That is something that my body can not endure at all, I can stand and walk maybe 40 minutes before I am done. The long walks across the dam on rocks, 11 flights of stairs and slick ice have pretty well done me in; I can ride a bike forever with little problem so my stamina and heart are strong.
This photo was taken about the time I took my physical as to complete my application for a government job at the lock and dams on the Ohio River. When I took my physical the doctor took my pulse and it was 40 beats per minute at rest; he had me do sits and jog for a few minutes; took my pulse then let me rest for a minute then he took my pulse again and again it was just 40 beats per minute. I was cool and calm just a few months off the commune.

After going to the doctor yesterday who told me to lose weight we went to Murray Kentucky in our red truck to return a mattress Kitten Yarn had loaned us for the Holidays. When we got there we all went out to lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant. I had my favorite fancy burritos while Motherkitty hunt and picked at the menu at something different and good. Most Mexican Restaurants in the United States have the same ingredient in most of their dishes (hamburger meat); I avoid this by going strait for the sizzling fajita of meat, chicken, shrimp and create my own burritos.
I told Motherkitty that we could open up a taco stand here in Kentucky and make a fortune with her tacos. Mom makes the best tacos in the states. Simple just like hamburgers.
After lunch we went shopping since Motherkitty and Kitten Yarn each got paid. I got a set of brass hinges (for a jewelry box that Talon tore apart) and a hard block of bird food for the woodpecker in Kitten Yarns tree which I put up as soon as we got back to Kitten Yarns. It had a steel chain so soft that it was useless (Made in China - so it fell apart (it fell on Eliana's head)) so I had to resort to a small bungee cord I had in the red truck to hang the hard brick of Wood Pecker food.
Eliana is having a Monkey Party in March so Motherkitty bought a handful of Monkeys for the party. We had a tie down net in the back of the red truck to hold the monkeys until we got home last night.
Today Motherkitty will wash her clothes for work and take it easy for the day. She enjoys meeting people in the check out lines at Wal Mart. I will fix the jewelry box.
0730 It is 4 degrees upfront and 9 degrees out back. That is cold and if you do not have any wood burning in the coal stove you have frozen pipes.
I took a nap at 0530 and listened to "Mitch" McConnell, Barack Obama then C-Span before rising out of bed and loading the dish washer.
While at Kitten Yarns I proposed that Dancer Girl (seven) learn to do laundry which took glances and frowns from Motherkitty and Kitten Yarn. I figured intelligence is intelligence. I remember my step mother Margie having me do chores in 1950 and then later when my sister came to live with us that she had to do chores too. She came to live with us when my dad's mother died (1952 (Natallia)) in San Gabriel.

I am up early this morning to go get a physical at my local doctor's clinic. When I was employed by the Federal Government we got thorough physicals every two years. I fasted last night and now this morning early it is blood work with an appointment later this morning for the exam. Since it is my doctor he knows all my bruises and kinks just by the nature of seeing me quite often throughout the year. When my dizzy spells got worse he sent me to a specialist where I did get my hearing checked and my ears examined and cleaned. Last year I had a thorough eye examination at Motherkitty's eye specialist. Every two years I get an upper and lower GI. My main concern is my blood work.

Outside it is 25 degrees and a heavy frost up front and 28 degrees out back. At one time a few years ago I thought that the difference in the temperature was the thermometer but I was wrong when I used two different thermometers over four days and I received the same results. In front (north) of our home it is always two or three degrees colder than the back (south) of our home.

I awoke last night to take my medicine and confronted a new full grown cat with a red collar in our hallway. The cat freaked and climbed the curtains when it saw me. I told it to go out but it just ran in circles trying to leave. I finally had to open the slider and shooed the cat into the dinning area where it ran outside.

50 degrees, gray and overcast, the trees are brown skeletons in my morning view.
The Kentucky Basketball team plays today at 1:00 pm central time then we have two pro football playoff games to watch.

We spent the day at Hopkinsville, KY yesterday. Motherkitty had a checkup and we also changed the vans oil while there.
Motherkitty bought me a kit to fix our leaking wash basin faucet. I will wait until Monday for that chore so if the house implodes while I am fixing the faucet we have some local stores open for advice.

Motherkitty had to send everyone her work schedule so that when they want to talk to her she will be available to talk to them.

I am hearing "Cruising Down the River" by Jack Smith. When I was young my cousin Annette had Scarlet Fever while at my grandmothers home (I was staying there) in Pasadena. All the grown-ups were standing around the bed watching the doctor (they made house calls then) tend to my cousin. Everyone was so busy that they forgot to notice me standing at the foot of the bed; when they finally saw me it was too late and I was placed in another room (my uncle Sam's and Rudy's room ). Our home was quarantined. Anyway I did suffer from the Scarlet Fever but I got to look out the window and listen to music on the radio (which I did not remember doing before that time). The songs played over and over so some songs became very familiar. That is why I mentioned the song above.

I noticed the other day that my insurance company is giving back some of the money it collected. I got benefits for my money. I have not been happy with big corporate insurance companies taking my money and making me insurance poor.
Is some other business going to give back to the people of their country?
I think this is the case and it is happening as I speak. Maybe one solution is Microsoft who could ask $30.00 for the Office Program and still make a profit.
Can you think of some other corporation that could sell their product cheap and still be "In the Black".
Maybe a bank could offer us 8% on our savings accounts and not build that new drive-thru.
I made a sacrifice and it is time for corporate America to do their part.
Maybe Walmart could buy American for a year then give the world a chance to get their act together.

I updated my Coalition website this morning and I added some more links to my homepage which none of you have seen. I created this page because iGoogle got to clunky. People that create these fast loading web pages always want to add more fluff and soon the sight become slow and clunky.
(Windows did this with all their software.)

Crittenden County Coalition for a Drug-Free Community

I create websites and this is one website I did not mind creating. The Coalition gave a speech at our Local 1373 National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association meeting in 2007 and I was impressed and wanted to help. Our Local Chapter 1373 did not any money to donate so I created the website above for them. So we at Local Chapter 1373 have created a website for the Crittenden County Coalition for a Drug-Free Community.
I also created a website about Wicket Lock and Dam 50 which is also sponsored by Local Chapter 1373.

Oboe Concerto in A Minor by CPE Bach

I just heard "Oboe Concerto in A Minor" by Bach on our XM Music Station and I could not believe how difficult a piece it is to play; even the oboist I heard playing it was struggling to get it right. He did and it sounded great.
The reason I bring it up is that Motherkitty was getting ready for work and she said, "Do you remember this?" I was not listening very carefully but when I did I realized that Kitten Yarn had played this music at her recital in Murray.
I tried finding it on you tube but it was not available.

I think this is a good choice. I see nothing but good in the doctor. It is time for some coffee. I hear music blasting out of Motherkitty's computer. She watches a lot of videos.
I am up early today.
Our health insurance this year (2009) offered generic online drugs to us for $0.00 for the first five prescriptions and $10.00 for the rest of the years prescriptions. So Motherkitty and I are headed to our doctors office to make sure our prescriptions are generic. That will save us a lot of dough.
I think I will ask him for a appointment for a physical this year too; the last one I had was when I was working.
Motherkitty is up now.

Last night it rained while temperature hovered around the freezing point. My daughter Kitten Yarn said that icicles were hanging from her trees in her yard(about 1700); when she told me this I looked out here in Marion and I saw maybe a dusting of haze. Now this morning we do have some icicles but the temperature is 35 degrees so the melting of ice will be fast. Motherkitty went to work yesterday evening about 1700 and worked until 2100; then shopped and came home and she no problem with ice.
Motherkitty's van got hit by a rock on her windshield a few days ago and the glass man is coming by this morning to replace the windshield; to keep the weather out of the van I will put it in our garage while he changes it.

Influence and Attitude

Influence and Attitude are words that we use to place a view into the minds of our being and others. The folks that see only words written 1000 years ago should comprehend the value of today's spirituality. We have learned a lot in 5000 years of religious history and most of that understanding is right before our eyes.
All of us have placed a drop of ourselves on this planet; be it mental or physical; we cannot no matter how we try to remove our being or thought from this planet.
Remember the planet uses us just as much as we use the planet; that is one intelligence we hardly ever recognize.
That is why a love song is part of my environment.

It is time to see the women.
The monk read his scripture on the pulpit and the merry maid toils in the kitchen.
They are both beings on the planet earth and each one is working for the good in society.
She toils in the kitchen and he works in the garden.
He wears robes like a monk and she wears linen to bed.
Why does society remember what he wrote and worship his glossy script and we forget why she toiled in the kitchen.
They each knew the same god.
Is her only burden a vessel for humanity?
Where is her pedestal?
Does she write her laws or values or does she just chant the old scripture that he wrote with grace?
She worships the monk's songs while the maid still toils upstairs.
It is time to value her word as Gods.
It is time to see the women.

Am I on a spiritual quest?
No I do not think so.
Am I in a constant state of euphoria?
Sometimes I say yes and sometimes I say no.
In general I am there.
I guess that means no.

I would hope that this site does help in your knowledge of the unknown. Should there be a step-by-step guide on this site to reach the levels of bliss that we should encounter?
No I do not think so.
I think that all of us encounter that level in life itself at one time or another.
My favorite encounter is seeing the other person with the same equality and saying so. I would like to think that there is an easy answer to seeking the truth. The truth is always there the hard part is seeing it.
My first web page was the view of the ocean at some remote beach.
It revealed the beauty of life and the quest of man to stand by the ocean and marvel at that moment.
I figured if I showed you that scene then you would see the beauty of life and
all your troubles would be minor.
Or if I told you about the women that had loved me at some time then maybe you could understand that love and
it would make your day a blissful blessing.
But I realize that life is not so simple as telling you that life is grand and that the angel is there over
your shoulder guiding you toward bliss. What was so great about the sixties was the fact that each person encountered in our steps through life was told how wonderful life was. We were seen and we saw the person or life before us. That each of us was standing in that place provided by life and
those folks in the sixties were there with you as guides reflecting the values that were supposed to be on display. That state of mind is missing in our layered society today.
The haves and the have-nots of this world and their colors that layer our society mostly laugh and see nothing.
I do see at that level of euphoria but it does not show through in my every day life.
I know that Jesus walked in that state of euphoria and was bright enough to verbally say it.
Buddha sought it and found it.
They are well documented.
Hopefully the 1960's will be documented in the same light.
Well here's hoping that you have a good day and see whatever guides you to be great.

The High Cost of Living

27 degrees outside and partly cloudy here in Western Kentucky. This is the 1st working day of the New Year. All the festivals are litter in trash cans along the board walk ; city and county workers are picking up the debris.
I checked the cost of living in Marion, Kentucky with living in the small city of Sebastopol, California and the difference was over $41,900 dollars.
The price of gas here at its highest a few weeks ago was $4.00 dollars a gallon just as it was in Las Vegas on the same day. The cost of Living in Las Vegas was only a $14,000 difference.
I heard this lady on C-Span say her husband made $80,000 dollars a year; she helped her two boy who could not find a job get by; to her things were getting worse and she was just getting by.
I helped our children when I could but now it is impossible.
We are the average retired family in the United States. My wife has gone back to work to maintain a standard of living.

I was thinking of cleaning out the clutter of my sons bedroom and I got to thinking that he will never want to stay in the small confines of his old bedroom.
I learned back in the 1960's that confined spaces are a matter of the point of view one has. Now if I were confined to the room my point of view would merely be confined to that space. Now that is a point of view. We are confined to the limits of our body and the space we occupy. Our limits of travel is dependant on society or the planet we inhabit (space).

Ultrasonic Frogs Croak in Secret

I felt like a fat bull frog that just croaks so I looked up the phrase and I found this link above.
I have been amusing my being playing Sudoku since our son left (He taught me how to play while he was here.) I go to this web site on this computer in the middle of winter and play the game.
I depend on society and it provides while everyone is asleep (the hum of those wires in the quiet morning provide stimulus to our home and mind).
Motherkitty brought up the fact that we are self-centered. Some of us do think of others but some of us revolve around our marriage and ignore the troubles of society.
One of the pleasures of living in Kentucky is the fact that you can disappear in the country.
When I first arrived in Kentucky I was overwhelmed by the real changes of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall; those were parts of the planet that I was not aware of, those changes are remarkable and so are the folks that live through those seasons.
In winter it may be hard to think of color because of the overwhelming cloud cover of gray in the winter months that drain the spirit of well being but we have conquered that feeling with our Winter Solstice Celebrations of Thanksgiving, Kwanzaa, Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year (that is why we have colorful lights and trees).

It is 48 degrees this morning and it is the third day of 2009. I woke up listening about the Messerschmitt Bf 109 then something about the environment and nuclear power (Michael Goo Legislative Director of the Climate Center at the Natural Resources Defense Council).
Nuclear may work elsewhere but here in Western Kentucky we have real damage to people, land and water because we to tried to clean up nuclear rods and ended up with an environmental disaster.
From a reliable source! is what is happening around me as I speak. Is our local water safe to drink? I have not a clue? Is the problem in the Ohio River fixed I do not think so; it is one of those problem that we hear, "We will deal with that in a while." And our leaders will move on like the Madd Hatter whispering to hiss... self like Gollum, "Gotta run! gotta run?!"
It is still dark out and our clock is ticking in the quiet morning of this abode. Alleycat is resting on the arm of this chair and Peaches is taking a bath on Motherkitty's Chair. I rock and Alleycat does not mind; her claws are in a prevent sleeping mode (she is there but she does not know it mode). She turned her head because a sense in her realized I was thinking about her. Time for a cup of coffee.

Wii Bowling

Last night Motherkitty and I bowled on a Wii computer console at our friends home on the lake.
We had a great time and Motherkitty won the game challenge.
We also had a great dinner and time with Micki and Joe.
Motherkitty is under the weather today but is still cleaning out her dresser as we speak. I am doing chores around the house this morning.

I traveled by this Stadium all of my early days in California but was never allowed to go near the place. I saw all the posters as I walked along the streets of San Gabriel and Alhambra. I remember posters for Ike and Tina Turner and James Brown. I remember my dad saying that there were always fights at the stadium - If you loved early James Brown then this was the place to go. I think all of the early black rock and roll musicians played there; being young and naive I thought that this was their home base.
I remember my cousin Ron taking me to a bar near the stadium in El Monte to see The Righteous Brothers - ( You've Lost That Lovin Feelin) but they had moved on to some other city, this was just before they became really popular.

A refreshing new day; the beginning of something new. The last post spoke of the last day and now we speak of a new day. Ideas? History? Great Math?
We are not monkeys we are naked human beings with cotton cloth and hides to keep us warm; we possess a great intelligence; we have counted the stars and know where they are; we know when time begins and ends. So today is the new year in our time.
We have never been here before but we are comforted by society, we do not fear the unknown as we step forward in time.
We move into the future every day and every moment. Every day we renew our vows.
Funny I do not remember dates and names nor store information in my brain as an average human being, the affection of a mother and the teachings of a father were not given to me until my later years. But I do possess what I sought and that was my ability to understand the unknown capabilities of each of us.
I will always wish to be the great philosopher but I will always be simple in thought and basic. I will always want great wealth but that will never come my way.
I create simple beauty as illustrated in my Bonsai weather station above and my drawing of Gollum below.
