Two Operating Systems

I now have two operating systems on my desktop (not mom's). I tried to do it on my laptop and it did not work because of my WIFI connection. But the other computer in Kitten Yarns room worked great. That computer now has Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) and Ubuntu 10.04.
The difficult thing is moving files back and forth between operating systems. I cloud compute and I have been doing that for some time. This blog is in the clouds as is Gmail, Picaso, Facebook and all your interactive games. So I can move files via gmail. I attach a file in gmail and send it to my alter ego. So when I am in the other operating system I open gmail and fetch my file.

Small Business Loans

The Republicans of the U.S. Senate recently blocked the Small Business Loan bill. The bill was known as the Small Business Jobs Act and was stalled primarily because Republicans reported that the bill was too similar to the recent bailout of large banks.

I use the computer and she uses her brain

Good Morning.
When it gets to hot we jump in the pool. We have had a 30% chance of rain everyday for the last two weeks and nothing has happened. I put finishing up the deck off because of that chance of rain. I finally ignored the weather forecast and finished the deck yesterday morning before the temperature got to hot to work the sealer properly.
Mom is interactive and outgoing and she loves Skype. I am not to thrilled with Skype as it takes away from my computer performance. Mom has a powerful computer so I will see if it bothers her computers performance. I turned it off this morning because I could not play Scrabble with mom, because Skype and Scrabble use the same space on my computer. We play 8 games together. I use the computer and she uses her brain and that makes it pretty evenly matched.

Skype

Motherkitty had me put Skype on my laptop only to find out that we did not have any mic on the laptop that worked. I bought one with a headset but still no mic. Finally Motherkitty's Sister Mrs Green Thumb sent me a link to the proper updates, drivers and software to make all the mics work on my laptop. In the meantime mom had gone to work at Walmart and while there purchased a camera with headset for her computer. I put the camera on her computer, down loaded Skype and fired it up and it works great on her computer to. But I think I will have to have my own setup on this laptop.
I have Skype set up on my laptop now.
Before you call:
Let me put on my red shirt and hat. I may even go downtown and get one of those screens that photographer's use as a background (wallpaper) when doing your portrait photos.
I think I will have my hat and shirt on a hanger close by.

Tea Party

I was just thinking that Motherkitty was a compliance officer at the hospital where she worked here in town.
I was thinking that we should make all corporation, small business and farmers have a compliance officer and part of their responsibility is to hire under federal compliance standards which includes age, citizenship or proper work documents.
Each farmer would have to hold that title, each small business owner would have to hold that title and each corporation board member would have to hold that title.
Breaking any hiring laws would be punishable by law no exclusions.
Someone mentioned that some farmers hire contractors to do their work. The contractor is a small business owner so both the farmer and the contractor would be responsible if any law was broken.

2010 Election

The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) administers programs that focus on community-based substance abuse prevention, and supports prevention initiatives in the Departments of Health and Human Services, Justice, Education, and others. The President’s FY 2011 Budget seeks to increase funding for drug prevention efforts by 13.4 percent over the FY 2010 Budget.
A vote in the right direction would help prevent your sons and daughters from abusing any substance known to man.

Goodbye, 'Safe and Drug Free Schools'; Hello, 'Successful, Safe and Healthy Students'

The Obama administration is proposing a new "Successful, Safe and Healthy Students" grant program to replace the Department of Education's Safe and Drug-Free Schools (SFDS) program, which has suffered significant funding cuts in recent years amid doubts about its effectiveness. The new program -- intended to create "an improved school climate that reduces drug use, violence, and harassment and improves school safety and students' physical and mental well-being" -- would receive $283 million under the Obama plan, $107 million more than SFDS received in FY2010. Unlike the formula-based SDFS national grants, the Healthy Students grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to local education agencies. CADCA's Dean welcomed the funding but worried about how it will be used. "Although the new program does speak to some drug prevention, it's more implicit than explicit," he said. "If it's not explicit, school officials might not give drug prevention the attention it deserves." The budget would establish a $15-million Prevention Prepared Communities program, a pilot project intended to create a system of evidence-based youth prevention interventions lasting throughout adolescence. Another $5.6 million would be spent on supporting community prevention specialists who would assist in developing these projects in collaboration with the states, and $2 million would be used to evaluate the project. The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign -- a frequent target of critics who claim the program is expensive and ineffective -- also would receive a major funding boost under the Obama drug budget, up $21.5 million to a total of $66.5 million in FY2011. "The president is throwing good money after bad when what we really need is a new direction," said MPP's Houston. $100 Million More for Treatment, But No New Funds for Block Grant About $100 million in new funding for treatment programs within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) would be spread over a variety of programs, notably the Second Chance Act, which would receive $20 million more to provide community-based treatment services to ex-offenders

Republicans vote no for the Unemployed

The Senate passed this bill to extend unemployment benefits through November 30, making the extension retroactive to June 2 when the last extension expired. Because it was amended by the Senate, it was sent back to the House for final approval.

Vote for a Democrat the next Election in Kentucky. Jack Conway is as smart as John F Kennedy.
Monday morning and our fan is blowing our clock is ticking and my ears are ringing from all the sounds. It is peaceful but I seem accustomed to the environment that I live in. There are no loud radios or engines moving automobiles, jack hammers or people in conversation just my ears listening to the early morning sounds of technology in a supposedly quiet home. I am lured into believing in this quietness that it is quiet. Electricity moves forward and I listen as I assume that this is quiet.
I am going swimming. It is 75 degrees outside and the pool is 88 degrees.

Sunday Morning and the cats are playing. I am happy to be out of the terribly hot humidity. You can see the early morning humidity in the photo at left.
I was in the pool yesterday three times, early morning with mom, noon cleaning of the pool and relaxing in the evening stretching my sore back in the pool with mom.
We are going to miss the Tuesday cookout at my sisters in Berea. Ky. But I will be there in good feelings and good vibrations.

I did some heavy lifting yesterday and my back is sore. Not enough to place me out of commission but just enough to make me sore. Our pool does a good job or pulling the spine down by using a float to rest your arms and having your spine just hang. Gravity pulls the spine into place in the pool that way (traction).
We have morning gray skies that will turn blue as the sun and I get closer in distance and length.
It is peaceful in Western Kentucky.
It is evening in Western Kentucky and it is peaceful.

It seems like a misty morning

But it is not. Moisture is everywhere and the humidity is going to climb today as Western Kentucky turns toward the sun. It is peaceful in Western Kentucky and I only hear the clock, the birds and the fan. It is a heavy strong fan and it is rather intimidating when she blows. But I assume that the purpose of such force is to clean the moisture out of the lines. Moisture in lines may cause a number of bacteria to form and that is not good.
Today I clean and shock the pool and let the pool water see the sun. The water evaporates that way, removes chlorine and reduces the temperature as the sun sets.
I am making coffee with a tea kettle this morning as our old coffee maker bit the dust a month ago. I just put the filter holder over the pot and pour hot water, it is slower.

Good Morning I write to refect and to help.

It is pleasant in Western Kentucky. It is so wet outside I cannot see out the windows because of the moisture.
Kitten Yarn is at our home knitting and helping us. The children are so responsible in a wild kind of way. They are all asleep as I wait for the tea kettle to whistle and as I speak it whistled. Red tea for me.
I have several ways to post my feelings and this blog is only one of many. I write my congressman, I used to write letters via the post office but it is so private and it only speaks to one person that it very inconvenient to write 50 letters a day. So I blog, write on my websites, interact with FaceBook. I do not text or chat because I do not spell very well. I take a while longer to post and most of my posts do not go very far in my understanding of the word.
Mentally I am where it's at and that is the space provided by birth. My history is sporadic and drones on like an annoyance.
I write to reflect and to help.

If the Republicans or T-Party's win the next election look for big lay-offs of government employees especially in government security, border patrol and telecommunications. That means more people in the unemployment lines as the GOP cuts the size of government.
That means more bankers and Walmart employees.

The Holy Roman Catholic Church

I have been thinking about this for about a week now. The question in my mind is that should the Catholic Church allow their priests to marry or live with a woman? My answer is simple knowing the history of the Catholic Church and knowing that we as human beings have no fear that such a union would alter anything about the Roman Catholic Church. It would only enhance their ability to confirm the knowledge that they possess.
It would solve the problem they have with celibacy. Traditions change as society learns from its history so the break from celibacy would be clean and simple. Man is built to survive and celibacy only scorns at mankind. Remember that fathers make excellent priest and profits.
When the Protestants broke away it was a radical move but now with the history the Internet provides us we as a society can move very swiftly by a simple vote in Rome. The world would chant and bow their heads in reverence and say, “It’s about time!”
Sunday Morning and the teapot is whistling. I am sore from working and exorcising. I did something different in the pool and worked my arms. I normally peddle in the water but I did breast strokes forwards and backwards with my arms while standing in the water and also did some dolphin kicks for my stomach. Tough but good for the body and soul. I will relax and then do it again today.

Gray skies this morning with a chance of rain. Rain clouds are popping up here and there across the United States. I do not need to watch the weather channel on TV or wait until it pops up on the radio and just spoon over to the Internet and hit weather and it asks for my location on the planet and then it tells me whats is going on from a view from space.
We can thank John F Kennedy and his dream of going into space with all those billions and billions of stars.
Are you an old fuddy duddy that wants the simple life of 1950 or the revolutionary life of 1960. How about the conservative life of Ronald Reagan and Mitch McConnell or the wild Hatfield and McCoy's.
Life as we know it has changed as I can text you as you cross the border into Canada without any posse on your tail.
Our planet Earth is big but communications on the planet Earth is simple and fast. All we need is a portable solar panel to charge our battery.
Sit back and enjoy the ride as we travel though space at 67.000 mph around the sun.

Kentucky Texting Law - July 15, 2010

Kentucky drivers will have no choice but to keep their eyes on the road.

Thursday, Gov. Steve Beshear signed House Bill 415 into law which bans texting for all drivers and cell phone use for drivers under 18.

According to the news release issued by the Governor’s communications office, the law bans texting for drivers of all ages while the vehicle is in motion. For drivers over 18, it allows the use of global positioning devices and reading, selecting or entering a telephone number or name for the purpose of making a phone call. Texting is only allowed to report illegal activity or to request medical or emergency aid.

For drivers under 18, no use of personal communication devices such as cell phones and pagers is allowed while the vehicle is in motion. The use of a global positioning system is allowed, but manually entering information must be completed while the vehicle is stopped.

Good Morning. I am a little foggy this morning but it is only before a cup of tea and a shower. It is 72 degrees outside this morning with a morning dew, not exactly summer weather. Our sky is blue and my heart feels good. Because of all the rain showers everything outside is crisp and bright, no dust, clean.
The photo is of my grandfather Pablo. I had never seen him so young. He lived to a nice 101 years of age. He worked with adobe and gardens. He fought alongside Pancho Villa before settling in Southern California.
He created an adobe home for Clark Gable, a Museum in San Gabriel and extensive work on the Mission San Gabriel. I just learned that he and his sons were given a place in the history of the Mission San Gabriel in their Museum.
As responsible as he was I am sure that he settled all our families problems with dignity as only a father could do.

Stop Big Oil Bailouts

Does Anyone Know What Will Happen When The Democrats Are Voted Out of Congress?

Will the Republicans still vote, "NO!" on anything Obama wants. Safe foods, safe environment, more jobs, more control of out of control international banks, big oil.
I can understand what the upper middle class want. They want their investments to go up and their employees paychecks to go down. They want labor unions to disappear so they control the cost of products. More profits. That makes perfect sense.
Child labor maybe in the future, the 40 hour week is history as is overtime and benefits.
They want the "govern" out of government.
The famous ,"Trickle Down Economy" trickled overseas with the movement of our union jobs to non-union jobs in China and Obama gets the blame for that?
Big oil wants the land in Alaska and are paying Sarah Palin big bucks and a lot of fancy public relations to get the job done.

I am watching C-Span and they are talking to and about the laid off workers in our nation. The manufacturing companies have the pick of the litter when hiring any employee. The workers were making $20.00 and hour plus before they got laid-off. Now if they do get selected from the 1,000 of employees vying for that one job which starts at $8.50 an hour, without the benefits they had before their company left the country.
Obama is trying to hire or pay these people but the Republican Party says that costs too much. Our President and the Democrats are in this situation, "Your dammed if you do and your dammed if you don't." The Republican T Party just loves it and some gold coins in their future.
There are a lot of folks on TV (cable, Satellite) getting paid to analyze the situation. Those are the only employed folks I know that make any money other than bankers.

Republicans Want as Many Unemployed People as Possible, Because They Think It Will Get Them Elected

Another nice day in Western Kentucky and the poor folks that lost their jobs and are now unemployed because their factory moved to China. And now they cannot get a job because their application says , "unemployed". Now they are going to lose any help from the government because the Republican Party in Congress says that they are not going to keep the unemployed on the government payroll.
We have a chemical company in Western Kentucky that locked out their employees and hired scabs to replace them at lower wages. There seems to be an employer formula at work here. Blame the union and hire foreign labor at half the cost.
I am still working on the deck. It got too hot by 10:00AM to continue sealing and today it is going to rain. Well at least I got started with the sealer it can wait for a sunny day again.
It was over 100 degrees when mom and I went swimming. The pool was around 89 degrees which made it feel cool.
I am building a platform for our solar cover next to our solar heater. It will be just wood-grained plastic lattice so as not to tear the cover.

Love

There is no want or greed in love. It just stands alone and we taste it from time to time. It adds an overwhelming sense of comfort to your being and it is always there.
I am getting ready to go out and seal the deck. The temperature is going to rise quickly. It is 66 degrees at this time.
It is peaceful outside and there is no thunder as rain or violence in Western Kentucky. We obey the law. The law states that we are as a nation free to worship as we please. We can use guns but we have to obey the laws against violence.
There is no excuse for violence, federally, nationally, locally or in my personal belief. Our government believes that and we are the government.
I set the teapot on the burner and turned on the flame. I am drinking Red Tea, it is my favorite. I let i steeped for 10 minutes to make it as strong as coffee.
That bush is where the tea comes from.

We have a water leak. It is cold but coming from under the water heater. Anything to do with gas water heaters in Kentucky requires a licenced plumber.
We had it fixed and now we have a new shut off valve. The old valve was spraying on the water heater and not our wall so it was a little bit invisible to the eye of a normal human being. A plumbers eye found the leak by crawling and poking, inspecting and fudging (he followed the money for him that's water).
Mom fixed a great brunch as I finished the deck. The deck just needs to dry in this intense heat and tomorrow I will start applying the sealer. "Gaahed!" that's back breaking, but there is no other way to do the job right. I do good floors and decks. I give um hell with a 4" brush.

Declaration of Independence

Outside the birds are singing as we celebrate our Independence from Briton. Briton wanted us to be dependent but we wanted no part of it. So we declared our Independence.
It is a pleasant day here in Western Kentucky. We were out on the deck and the birds were singing all around us. The sky was a light gray and the temperature was 72 degrees with a mild comfortable breeze. Very pleasant. No violence anywhere. We have laws and they are obeyed. We have abundance because we share the wealth across the nation.
The edges of our borders are teaming with decadence and violence. They want to push into the states but are kept out by law. We can offer them law and if they do not take it we can move our borders south. It is different here in the United States. This is not Iraq or Afghanistan.
Diplomacy is a good word and we use it but if that does not work then we become the conqueror. We offer a choice.
Theodore Roosevelt had it right about carrying a big stick.

Sometimes you have to say it.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Mexico and Southern California

I grew with the thought that there was no border between the United States and Mexico. I think that only when California became a State that the border was thought of as is it is. When the Missions came up the coast it was all free range land. I am sure that the folks in the Texas territory thought the same.
So now we have a school board committee Governor wanting us to search everyone crossing this imaginary line in North America.

Pool Cover

I removed the cover from our pool. it came from the factory a little too big and now that it is on the ground I will trim it to fit properly. I will also Velcro it where it came apart. t will make it easier to handle. It is a good quality cover but it came apart where they welded the plastic together.
I put the cover on the ground and it was 25 1/2 foot long. So much for United States quality.

I am out on the lawn cutting to solar cover to size (24 foot) and mama is it hot. I cut the first half moon (half a pie) and I have just now laid out the second half to dry in the hot sun. When it is dry I will mark and cut it. I may wait until after the holiday to Rivet the Velcro onto both sides. It heat up fast on the lawn, it normally cooks the lawn. After about a week the grass grows back green.

I put the cover back on the pool and it looks like a factory fit to me.
Good morning. We have blue skies and warm weather. Normally the weather on the 4th is hot and humid but this year it is just warm. A comfortable warmth.

Help! Help Me Rhonda

Another nice day in Western Kentucky and the poor folks that lost their jobs and are now unemployed because their factory moved to China. And now they cannot get a job because their application says , "unemployed". Now they are going to lose any help from the government because the Republican Party in Congress says that they are not going to keep the unemployed on the government payroll.
We have a chemical company in Western Kentucky that locked out their employees and hired scabs to replace them at lower wages. There seems to be an employer formula at work here. Blame the union and hire foreign labor at half the cost.
