The Hubble Space Telescope

This is real. It looks as if a young space travel artist had conceived this idea and put it to paper. But it is real and taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
Monday morning and we have snow and it is 30 degrees outdoors. Just enough to cover the grassy areas and maybe make the walk slick.
Mom went to work.
I watched the Super Bowl yesterday and it was a great game to watch. It was as hard played game as I had expected and I was not surprised at the outcome. I was for the Pittsburgh Steelers but I was not surprised when their offense made those costly mistakes. I give credit to the Green Bay Packers defense for making the difference. I enjoyed the game and how tough they played.
0830
We have over an inch and a half of snow and it is coming down pretty heavy.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

It is Sunday Morning and also Super Bowl Sunday.
When I grew up it was the Rose Bowl and the Olympic. Then it was the Wide World of Sports an ABC Sports program on television.
In California for me it was, track, college football and the NFL. There were no baseball teams other than the Hollywood Stars.
Wrestling was local but Gillette had Gillette Cavalcade of Sports.

I do not know when I will join the broadcast of the Super Bowl game.

Some folks do not think much of a hard hat but this hat is something special. See the the red round sticker at left (you may have to click on the photo to get a better view); it says Ice and Snow 1977.
I got the sticker and $87.00 dollars while in the hospital after a hernia operation. The sticker and money was the governments appreciation for working 12 hours a day 7 days a week for two months in the 1977 -1978 winter storm. Click on the hat to see some of the photos of those days.
Anyway one day at Smithland (sometime in the 1980's I decided to bring my hat to the lock to display and use the hat. After the first day on display I noticed that someone was trying to take the sticker off the hat. I promptly brought the hat back home where it hangs in our laundry room. That sticker means a lot of very cold hard frost bitten work plus the hernia and I was not going to let someone get the sticker for a trophy.

C-Span

C-Span always says that it is not the government but the cable industry that pays the bills for the C-Span Channel. They always make that boast.
The truth is in order for the government to give them that spectrum the cable industry wanted; they the cable industry would always have to provide a public channel in their line up. That was one of the deals hammered out in the talks the cable industry had with the Federal Government.

We had cable for a very long time and they always told us that they would have stereo in their signal. As long as we had their signal they never made good on that promise. The digital satellite people had that signal and it was great so we went with them. The satellite folks went even further by offer digital satellite music channel and a high definition signal which are nothing short of spectacular.

Our Old Phone

It is snowing here this morning we seem to have less than an inch on the ground. I think the prediction was 1 to 3 inches of snow here in Western Kentucky. It is 31 degrees out there and what is coming down is wet and not fluffy.
I have been reading about digital phones and how secure they are. At the moment I am not sure what I have. My old phone was what was called when I bought it "Spread Spectrum Technology" 1996-1999 ( 900 MHz frequency) was the year we bought the phone as the spectrum had not been divided as it is now.
Both mom and I are both feeling rather well and I did remember that today is a new day but I did not want to burden you with that fact. I do celebrate my existence by feeling rather comfortable in my environment. I do not want as it is not good for the mind to dwell on frivolous objects or moments in the future. I do look in catalogues but I turn the page my mind goes to that new page and when I go back my mind still goes forward into the future as the page turns back. It is always the moment to be.

15 degrees and we have no snow on the ground. It is still dark outside and I do have heat in our home because the heater is keeping our temperature at least 71 degrees. That is comfortable. I know of folks that still huddle under blankets to keep warm to keep the cost of life down. Our poor in Kentucky use wood stoves to keep warm. Their water is down deep and only pulled to the surface so it does not freeze but it must be heated in a kettle/large container on the wood stove. The Amish use a generator to pump up their water in their homes here in our county.

I feel rather well today and I send out a good feeling to those of you that have rather harsh mornings.
Although my morning seem the same because of circumstance and environment I do not forget that I awoke on the planet earth in a new time. Our planet is occupying a new space as it spins around the sun. The path may be well worn but the time is rather new for the planet also. This is the first time that photo of a horse and buggy parked so close to our home.
It is time for a cup of coffee.

John Mayer

We have been on this planet a long time. Did you ever think that while you were in the cave poking that meat over the hot wood coals that a human being would be playing music like this on Youtube.
We never fully understand the day before us because it is always new and setting time in the future space. Every moment we exist on this planet is a very nice gift. And this young man is playing a slow dance song on my computer. He is good at what he does.

Dan'l

Frankfort Cemetary, Frankfort, KY

We were in Frankfort, Ky. high up on the hill overlooking the bend in
the Kentucky river in 1968. The river was high, chocolate and swift. We sat on
the ground. Viewing the scene, we sat in peace, inhaling the moment.
Watching the turbulence far below. I sat with Dan'l and Laurel. Laurel
was holding an old green bottle that she had found. I told Dan'l that
Laurel and I would be driving back to Marion come sundown. He asked
how far Marion was? I said a hundred miles. He looked at us puzzled. I
said that times had changed the way we traveled. Our walking days had
passed. He looked out over the river while working a knife into a
piece of wood, whittling. He stared passed us, out over the raging
river, solemn and quiet. A hundred miles, he says to himself? I
pointed down to the 1967 Mustang down at the road. Let's look see he
says. He stands tall in his buckskins. We stride down to the Mustang
swiftly. He walks around it, his mind racing, his eyes marveling at
the machine before him. You see his intelligence absorbing the
carriage before him. I could see that a bear would think twice before
challenging such a man. Such power, intelligence and grace. We said we
had to go, we thanked him for his time, we would meet again sometime.
Driving back, Laurel asked if I enjoyed the day, I said yes. Next week
Laurel wants to go visit Ol' Abe.

Laurel and I visited Daniel Boones Grave, It overlooked the Kentucky river in Franfort Ky. The State Capitol was in the bend of the river below us.

It is raining this morning and the temperature outside is in the 40's. The big winter storm is to our west and I m not sure whether it will hit us. Well I know we will get the storm but I am not sure as to what we get? Snow, Ice or Rain.
I am washing clothes and cleaning a bird feeder as I type.
I took a cut in pay on my pension as Blue Cross and Blue Shield raised their rates and the government held its ground.
I was a retirement dinner last October with about 50 retired federal employees in attendance. In the room we paid as a group 1/2 a million dollars in premiums to just Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
