Organic Magazines

I used to have a whole box of Organic Magazines. Mulching could have saved California. It saved our yard in Western Kentucky. Every one should do their part to save their portion of the Planet we call Earth.

Compute Magazines

I used to have a whole box of Compute Magazines.
Each magazine is full of basic programs.

Good Morning

We had a busy day yesterday lifting bags and boxes out of my son's room closet. We are looking for our paper shredder (it has been misplaced). We are looking for it and finding things that should be sold, given away, shredded or trashed. Things we have saved have no useful purpose if your 70 years old. "Out with the old in with the what?"
There might be a little income for some of the stuff.

Good Morning

Thursday morning and we have blue skies and 28 degrees. Laurel and I will soon be cleaning one of our rooms together; that is one of the perks of being retired together.
Last week we went to see Eliana at her gymnastics meet in Paducah.

Good Morning

Sometimes we forget!
I normally see the day in quiet solitude and reflect on it. The space I occupy on the planet Earth is where I am seated at this present time. This is the prayer to the planet and all it's life. Quiet at peace.
This is the luxury of freedom in the United States of America. I do at presence hear the ringing in my ears that I could not mask at the doctors office.
I do hear the buses move to pick up the kids for school and I hear the bells of a game that Laurel is playing. Those are the sounds I hear in my surroundings. We had planned to visit with my Daughter in Murray today but her daughter is sick at home.
Maybe a whisper of kindness and smiles and smooth good energy can lift the blossom of pain and suffering.
Yes I see the news on TV.  Yes I talk to the TV. Yes I talk over this Walkie -Talkie. Laurel has a tablet to read her books and brows this blog.
If I walk away from these comforts the winter chill will cool my body and the body will turn to dust and compost the the spring flowers and fruits.
I made a deal with our government. If I work hard for you then you will see that I am comfortable when I reach 70. It was planned and so it is.

Some folks take advantage of decent folk. I know why now.

I learned that work is part of life and part of the ability to survive. Being paid to work is a bonus. Work has nothing to do with society; it is strictly a personal thing.
I grew up thinking that a human being had to work nine to five jobs and that if you did not work for society you were a slacker. That thought is pushed into the minds of human beings in our society and creates a false sense of moral values of doers and slackers.
The world has learned to abuse the ability of work by creating slaves to do their work; causing me to think that work is part of the evil when in realty it is the man that controls the slave that is evil;  not the work.
Where ever you find a group of men working as slaves you always see a few men that are content with their lives and you wonder why. I know why now.
Yes we must free man from slavery; not free man from work; pounding rock is not evil.
We should also free man from the propaganda implanted in the brain about work.
Some folks take advantage of decent folk. Their logos are below.

Good Morning

I spent the day watching a rain delay.I am a NASCAR Sprint Cup Fan and the Daytona 500 got started and lighting struck something far off in the distance and they stopped the race. Then it rained and rained and I fell asleep and when I awoke it had gotten going again and I tapes the news and the weather and the fog and the 30 minute program and someone won the race.

Good Morning

I want to watch Kentucky Basketball whenever they play. I found out the the League they play in is going to have their own network TV Station called "SEC TV" . I know that SEC TV is going to be on AT&T U verse.
AT&T U-verse® has been secured as the network’s first national distributor. AT&T U-verse is the fastest growing TV provider in the U.S. and their subscribers will have access to an unprecedented amount of SEC content across all platforms. Subscribers receiving the live linear network via a multichannel subscription will also have access to the network on PCs, tablets, smartphones and select gaming devices like Xbox. Additional games and coverage will be available through an authenticated digital offering. Fans looking to learn more about how to get the SEC Network can visit for more information.

I had to Write DirecTV to ask them to get SEC TV as an option on my satellite stations.

Good Morning

We have changed our service from AT&T DSL to  AT&T U-verse. There is not much change in our download speed but there is a good change in our upload speed. That is good for me since I upload files to my websites.
Last night it stormed but we missed the brunt of the storm but we did get the wind. It moved a chair on our deck, cleaned off the pool cover and the pool cover did stay in place. Laid down a trash can, we them tied in place ( I normally keep them tied down - good habit). I did not look at our roof or area. Our area is a muddy mess because of the freeze and thaws, so it is best not to walk in the grassy areas. The wind will dry the area.

Going Paperless

As I travel to each chapter and I explain that NARFE has gone paperless and I ask the folks to get a tablet or computer I find that most of the folks I talk too find it annoying to get a computer or tablet or go out of their way to view what our National Headquarters has to say.
At one time Headquarters, The Kentucky Federation of Chapters, The DVP or Chapter Officer sent them something in the mail. Now it is up to each chapter to wait for someone to mail them something, visit them and pass out forms. It is a quick change.
Overall it is expensive for National, The Kentucky Federation, The District DVP or the Chapter to print anything.
Email is the easiest form of communication and after paying to be online it is easy to access anything about NARFE, Western Kentucky District 1 Blog plus the added plus of email. Being online becomes comfortable utility.
I realize that folks get tired of being asked and I have to apologize for my zeal. But I understand the power of the printed press, other than your voice the Internet is the most powerful tool mankind has seen since the atomic bomb.

Good Morning

Did you ever have one of those days when you want to do something but your body does not want to do it. Today is such a day. I want to write a NARFE Newsletter but my body and mind do not at this time. Maybe I should just go over to FaceBook and peek.
1010 after midnight
I still do not want to write a newsletter (I have two pages done). I want to help Laurel shop and clear/clean her etagere (I had said the word several times but had no clue as to why I had to spell it here).

The Sun Day

Sometimes we have to remind our selves to relax and enjoy life on the planet Earth. I have written many such reminders (thoughts of my presence on the planet) sometimes they are worth repeating and sometimes you have to let emotions flow from your being. Each of us have that capability; we give it a different name, as in song, stance and or a state of being.
What ever it can stand at a different pole or church.
I have planned to have a "Good Morning".
It is my statement to to our unknown neighbor, letting them know that their presence is good for the soul.

Good Morning

Today is a pleasant day; most of the snow is melted. The rain last night froze doors and created black ice on some parts of our highways and walks.
I need to get out to the shed and remove a tire from our lawn mower.
I am cleaning the living room after removing our Christmas Tree. Rearranging computer wires and power strips. I have stuff left over and no place to put it.
We are no working in the Main Bedroom and I am taking a break. I can only work about 20 minutes at a time before my the nevrves in my thieth begin to tingle. If I stay on my feet it only gets worse. There are two solutions.
1. rest
 2. Have a back operation. If mom has a lot of shopping to do I grab an electric cart. If it a short trip then I sit with the old timers on the bench if I have a problem. I tell great stories.
"Jerry the fish was this big!!"

Good Afternoon

I heard a rich man say that because he pays more taxes, pays more to have his congressman elected, makes more money and spends more money that he should have more say in what our country does.

John Deere Mowers

We are going to have to save some money. For the time being we will fix our old clunker and make it last until we have the price for the new one. Our next mower will be our forth mower since living in Marion.
Our first one looked like a Snapper but it could not handle the tall wet grasses of Western Kentucky.
Our next mower we bought in the 1980's (John Deere 111) and it lasted until 1995 or so.
We then got the mower we have out in the shed ( John Deere LX176) at the present. It is held together with duct tape.
The 111 still runs but does not mow. The bottom two have done the job here at home since the 1980's.

Good Morning

We spent the day yesterday at a funeral then on to Paducah, KY. Funerals are always hard....... It is never easy. A friend and neighbor lost their son. Memories came flooding back, smiles and sadness. After the funeral we went to Paducah; I said that.
In Paducah we ate lunch then off to the John Deere dealer to get a fix on a mower, we learned a lot about the John Deere x300.

Good Morning

Sometimes I get overwhelmed with everything happening around me.
I need to take some time off which is not entirely possible because I am placed in the place provided. I  certainly do not want to leave my pleasantry behind. I have worked very hard to place my being in heaven.
Stopping and thinking that there is a nicer place to be other than this planet. I was taught that there is a heaven and hell and a holding place called Purgatory. As in whatever has been taught to me is a point of view of man (as in man and woman) and not the point of view of the planet and it's other forms of life.
I am more inclined to believe that the planet is my heaven and I should take care of it.

Crittenden County Rolling Hills

Notice the hills in Crittenden County (around Marion). To the north is the Amish area near Cave in Rock.
Outline the Creeks and Rivers to view Crittenden County

Good Afternoon

We did some chores in town then called the repairman to fix our clothes washer. It leaks when it drains the water out. It is still under warranty so we called the repairman.
I also got my third trim on my hair this afternoon.
Laurel and I went to the Amish store to get her a quilt rack.

Good Morning

The dusting of snow from yesterday melted during the day. Last night it snowed again and we have another trace showing. Our 3 or 4' snow cover is still on the ground only minor melt to smooth the snow.
The Driveway and truck windshield were clear before bed yesterday.

Saturday, February 8, 2014

Good Morning

A dusting of snow is falling.
In the 1940’s, my mom’s parents had a RCA Victor Victrola like the one pictured. I do not know who in the family bought the records to play on the Victrola but there was a big stack of them. I had no clue what was Mexican and what was English. I would just put a record on and crank her up and listen.
You had to change the needles pretty often; they were stainless steel.

Friday, February 7, 2014

Laurel got me a steam mop for Christmas and it works fine. It dries faster than a wet mop but I think you have to clean the floor twice with a steam mop (clean cloth). With my regular mopping method I change the water pretty often to keep the mop clean and the floors come out great. Like I said you have to clean twice with a clean cloth to stay close to a wet mop.
I just mopped the floors and opened the cat door.

Good Morning

There is a song Big Brother did called Combination of the Two.
Without much thought and the approaching cold climates in our future I thought of this:
It is about 2 degrees here at home this morning outside and a pleasant 68 degrees inside our home in Western Kentucky.

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Good Morning

It is 14 degrees outside and cold.
The new Republican.
Between 1972 and 1979 at Lock and Dam #50 on the Ohio River near Cave in Rock, Illinois; at Lock and Dam 50 towing companies had to break their barges apart in groups of 6 or less to lock. The lock chamber at Lock 50 was 600 feel long and 110 foot wide. The standard barge is 195 feet long, 35 feet wide, and can be used to a 9-foot draft. Its capacity is 1500 tons.
it is very hard to take those barges apart to lock at those 600 foot chambers. The union Steel towboat companies from Pittsburg had it down to a science and made it easy on their deck hands with good training and union scale pay; those companies kept their employees and you would see the same people every time they came through the lock; they were efficient and careful.
We are still in the time frame of 1972 and 1979.
During that period of time I saw my first glimpse of what was to come in our country and I was shocked. An ACBL Deck Leader was screaming at his crew to do the job quickly putting them in danger. I asked him later why he was treating his men that way and he replied. I care about the company and not the employees, I can pick up any wino in Paducah and still do the job for the company. The company comes first.
That was my first glimpse of what was to become of union scale jobs as the propagandist were screaming that unions were hoods and mobsters.
Today those strong unions are gone and employees have no benefits.

Good Afternoon

Laurel and I broke her van loose from the ground with a small shovel; we also broke her drivers side loose of the 1" of ice completely covering both of those doors. I had to find a hammer-like Ice Scraper and Squeegee to pound the side of those doors. Laurel moved her van to level ground. I had cleaned the snow away from her van the day I operated my snow blower.

Good Morning; 24 Degrees

It has stopped snowing and it is quiet out before the ice storm; we have been warned. I do not worry about such matters for I am retired. Mom works and she does worry about such matters. If she goes to work today she will not come home because it will be just too dangerous to travel back to Marion. She may be fired for that thought but we keep in mind her safety.
I keep forgetting about my nose bleeds. The last time I got into this situation it took about a year for them to stop recurring.

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Good Morning

Laurel bought me a box of Kleenex and a box of pop-cycles. Of course she bought some dip for the game today; plus she is cooking Italian Beef in the crock pot at this moment.
I feel better.

It is Hard to Say Good Morning

I feel stomped on and worn; my head is full of tightness and high blood pressure as the blood flows to relieve the blessings of a head cold. Fluids are draining from my sinus's  and blood was flowing from my nose. The blood is still flowing but it is now contained within my body and not out my nose.
