Driver's license office sued over immigrant's seized ID

  1. The last time I renewed my driver's license I was sent a letter beforehand and told that I needed to bring proof of citizenship. I was asked to bring 5 forms of ID which included my birth certificate, social security card and three other forms of ID, but that I couldn't use my driver's license as a form of ID.
That was no problem for me because I remembered that when I (originally at age 15 1/2) went to get my learner's permit I showed no ID and then at 16 when I received my driver's license I also showed no ID of any kind not even a birth certificate or my social security card. No parent signed for me either. And of course being the child that I was I didn't give them my full name but only my middle name.

I never had a copy of my birth certificate until I met Jimmy and then I sent for a copy so that I could get a passport to travel to Brazil.

The people at the Madison County driver's license office were very nice and did not confiscate any of my documents and I did not feel threatened, nor intimidated. It kind of pleased me that our country was being so diligent in making sure that only citizens received driver's licenses. That's too bad that some people are treated badly and I don't understand why the clerks had to be such jerks with that immigrant woman who is suing.
