King and Queen of the United States

The United States was formed by people that did not want a king as their leader. They wanted every citizen to rule the country.
We did not want a king or religious party picking people up off the streets putting them in jail on trumped up charges and torturing them.
Bush and Chaney were pretty close to being "King and Queen of the United States".
They used 9/11 to invade Iraq, then formed Guantanamo Bay detention camp to torture people that the Taliban told us were terrorists.
It is true that some of the prisoners our soldiers picked up were terrorists.
But:
What ever happened to international law?
What ever happened to habeas corpus?
