When I left the Navy, I went home in La Puente,
California and the smog in Southern California kept burning my eyes. A friend
in the Navy said to come to San Jose and maybe his father could find me a job
painting houses. So I moved to San Jose and got a room west of San Jose and
called my friend but he could not get me a job. That is when I got the job at
the car wash so I would not burn up the cash at my bank.
I do not remember what I did in San Jose other than look
for a job. The first thing I did was work at a car wash. In my spare time I
went to any office and company to find a job. I had money when I left the
military (Navy). My money was in the Bank of America. I was working at the car
wash and I was living at a pace in my life style that I did not lose money. So,
I did do things to enjoy my life by going to museums, movie theaters, Jazz Clubs
and I did explore the area by traveling by bus and walking. I kept going to the
same big companies and asking for work. Lockheed kept seeing me pretty often
and they finally did give me a job as a janitor.
