Why do we assume that government is some far off entity or bureaucracy we never see? Our founding fathers did not see it that way. They made each of us part of the whole, the government. They knew about kings and queens so they made our government out of each individual in the United States.
Big bosses in the early 1800's knew that they could buy power to control the population. Today corporations overseas have bought power in the United States by electing officials who live here.
We are the single voice of the small family who lives in the United States who are part of the whole. We are protected by law and given the freedom to vote.
We are the government.
How can we assume that we can become a smaller government. Those that think that way assume that we are some company that has grown to big and needs to be trimmed. We are a population of over 300,000,000 human beings and we are the government. We certainly can't put our eldest on a iceberg and let them drift off to trim the government.
Let us remember the preamble to our constitution.

We are the government but we are on a credit spending spree. What will our grandchildren inherit? Nothing but bills to pay because "we the people" couldn't control ourselves and are leaving them an enormous debt to pay.
