The military planes are gone and are no longer in charge of the airport...the Haitians are. 100 American citizens are trapped not able to leave Haiti and one of those trapped Americans is Eddie Whittemore our grandson by marriage. He is there with his adopted Haitian daughter who because she is a citizen of Haiti cannot leave and because Eddie is her father he cannot leave Haiti with or without her. There is only one way that the Haitians in charge of the airport will let him leave and that is if he will give them $18,000 U.S. Dollars. Sounds a bit like extortion to me. Eddie also cannot go through the Dominican Republic because of what happened to the 10 missionaries who tried leaving with children and were jailed.
